| Meteor Rail, Inc. operates railroad excursions using the 1948 Pullman sleeping car CIMARRON RIVER. There are a couple trips planned for this summer. We will have a few trips in the fall, and there will be a newsletter about that in a few months. Be sure to see the Summer 2008 issue of CLASSIC TRAINS magazine. The theme of this issue is the Pullman Company, and there is an article on CIMARRON RIVER as a surviving, operating Pullman car. | ||

Meteor Rail owns the 1948 Pullman sleeping car CIMARRON RIVER and operates railroad excursions with it. This is our first and only newsletter and trip announcement for this year as we have had an extensive program of repair and rehabilitation on the car. This work was external and structural including reinforcing the collision posts, rebuilding the vestibule with new stainless steel floor, replacement of rusted metal on roof and vestibule, and external repainting of the entire car. Additionally, to meet Amtrak's safety requirements, a 10 year inspection was performed, which required jacking up the car, rolling out the trucks for inspection and performing required repairs (which were minimal). A newer 26-C braking system was also installed. This work consumed the winter, spring and most of the summer. A great effort was required for all this--Tony coordinated and did much of the "grunt" work (too many hours with the grinder), Andy did most of the painting, Brian Higgins helped with paint preparation, Rick Sprung helped on many weekends with grinding, disassembly and reassembly, Bob Still donated a weekend, Tony's daughter Lori helped with lettering. Thanks also to our skilled paid help--John Achs, welder extraordinaire, and the crew at Illinois Transit Assembly, who did the brake and truck repair work.
Some private charters were operated in August and September and now we
have an exciting trip planned for October. We hope you can join us.
